We assessed the second level of the Kapown Rehabilitation Centre in Grouard to understand why the existing system wasn’t keeping rooms at a comfortable 24°C. Our analysis covered eight units and looked at a range of solutions—from shading options to mechanical adjustments.

While adding blinds or overhangs offered only small improvements, the clear winner was installing external insulated roller shutters, which would greatly reduce solar heat and help maintain comfortable temperatures with the current system. We also found airflow discrepancies that should be addressed through a detailed air balancing report. For areas still needing extra cooling, a VRF system could be a solid next step.
